If you want to change something – Bless it! Maybe you have bad habits or a financial situation you would like to change. Perhaps you have a spouse, child or friend in whom you would like to see a change.
God has given us a powerful weapon that can transform us and those around us as we fight the good fight of faith – the spoken blessing! In order for us to see someone or something turn around for the good we have to bless it, not curse it! Proverbs 18:21 says, Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Also, 1 Peter 3:8,9 tells us that we are called to bless others with our words, “Finally, all of you should be of one and the same mind, sympathizing with each other, as brethren of one household, compassionate and courteous with humility. Never return evil for evil or insult for insult; but on the contrary BLESS, know that you have been called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.”
What did that just say? We have been called to bless. What does that mean?
If you have a spouse, a child, a friend or a co-worker who is in rebellion or who is not receiving God’s best in their lives, speak a blessing over them. A blessing is not a blessing until it is spoken. Speak what God says about them and be quick to point out the things they are doing right.
Most of us make the mistake of trying to change someone by telling them what they should be doing or by pointing out what they are doing wrong. Many times we think that by constantly pointing out what others are doing wrong will somehow “shame” them into doing right. The opposite is true; we are really cursing them by speaking these negative things over them or ourselves. This is the enemy’s tactics not God’s way. God’s way is to speak life into ourselves and others by speaking blessings concerning things to come - even if the blessings are spoken by faith. Romans 4:17 tells us, “…calling those things which be not, as though they were.”
Blessing brings anointing into the life of the one you bless. Be a consistent “Blesser”! Bless your home, your cars, your situations, your friends, your family, and your co-workers – bless any area of your life where you want to receive the promise of change. You might think other people don’t want your blessing, but everyone wants to hear good things spoken about them! In Genesis 12:2 the Bible says you will receive an abundant increase of favor into your life as you bless others. We will reap a blessing when we sow a blessing.
Positive change is a promise from God and the spoken blessing is the weapon we are to use to bring forth that change! It’s never too late to begin activating the power of the blessing!
